SAE J3105-3:2020 pdf free.Electric Vehicle Power Transfer System Using Conductive Automated Connection Devices Enclosed Pin and Socket Connection
This complete system is insulated and IP2X touch-protected in accordance with IEC 60529 and environmentally protected to IP55. No live parts are accessible, virtually eliminating all foreseen risks for people in proximity to such high-power transfer systems even in a single fault condition. In the unlikely event that a fault does occur, any undesirable debris (molten metal, sparks, and so on) is contained in the enclosed housing, which increases safety in public and private areas where these systems are likely to be installed. A clean contact area is ensured, increasing the longevity of the system.
As defined in IEC 61984, the protective earthing (PE) contact always shall be“first make, last break.”According to SAE J3105, the DC power contacts are not rated for current interruption, which relates to connectors without breaking capacity COC. International standards request a measure to avoid the contacts of a connector becoming live before it is in proper engagement with its counterpart and that either prevents the connector from being withdrawn while its contacts are live or makes the contacts dead before separation (for example, IEC 60309, UL 1668).
To avoid arcing and to comply with the standards mentioned previously, a contact sequence for the control pilot (CP) as “last make, first break” shall be in place. This allows the EV and EVSE to shut down power before the power contacts of the ACD separate. An additional limit switch indicating a fully mated connection can increase the level of safety.
A change bar (1) located in the left margin is for the convenience of the user in locating areas where technical revisions, not editorial changes, have been made to the previous issue of this document. An (R) symbol to the left of the document title indicates a complete revision of the document, including technical revisions.
