SAE AS 7225B:2020 pdf free.Rivets, Carbon Steel Procurement Specification for
Hardness shall be not higher than 60 HRB, or equivalent, unless otherwise specified. Testing shall be in accordance with ASTM E384 for rivets up to 0.125 inch nominal diameter and in accordance with ASTM E18 for rivets larger than 0.125 inch nominal diameter. Testing shall be performed on a flat, smooth, filed, or ground surface near the mid-length of the shank.
All testing shall conform to NASM1312-6, unless otherwise specified in ASTM E18 or ASTM E384. Conversion from other test scales shall be in accordance with ASTM E140.
If hardness exceeds 60 HRB, or equivalent, on rivets up to 0. 125 inch nominal diameter, the rivets may be accepted by demonstrating conformance to formability requirements (3.5.2). The procedure for acceptance by formability shall be approved by the purchaser.
Shank formability can be demonstrated by one of the following methods:
a. Using a rivet having a grip length of 1.5 times the nominal shank diameter, the cold driven rivet shall have an expansion of the shank to the full diameter of the hole in which it is installed, provided that the hole diameter is not more than 0.006 inch greater than the nominal shank diameter.
b. As-supplied rivets may be installed into the intended application (or purchaser-approved facsimile). The installed rivet shall contact the bore of the mating hole for a minimum of 20% cumulative of the hole length, plus shall meet all applicable post-installation requirements. Hole length is defined by the thickness of each component or member being joined.
The vendor of parts shall supply all samples for vendor’s test and shall be responsible for performing all required tests.Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the parts conform to the requirements of this specification.
The manufacturer’s system for parts production shall be based on preventing product defects, rather than detecting the defects at final inspection and then requiring corrective action to be invoked. An effective manufacturing in-process control system shall be established, subject to the approval of the purchaser, and used during production of parts.SAE AS 7225B pdf free download.
