The following publications form a part of this document to the extent specified herein. The latest issue of SAE publications shall apply. The applicable isue of other publications shall be the issue in effect on the date of the purchase order. In theevent of con flict between the text of this document and references cited herein, the text of this document takes precedence. Nothing in this document, however, supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained.
Figure 1 defines gages for use with standard (i.e., AS81934) sleeve inside diameters. Progressive configuration plug gages,Type A or Type B, are recommended to properly align the NO-GO gage and reduce the risk of damaging the liner. Use of independent and separate GO and NO-GO gages, Type C, is also allowed. For nonstandard sleeve inside diameters the referencing document must specify gage dimensions in accordance with the definitions of 2.2.
Using the appropriate size plug gage, carefully insert the GO gage into the part. Precaution shall be taken to ensure proper alignment of the bore and the gage for accurate result. If the part will not permit gage entry at the gaging force specified on Table 1, the part is undersize and not acceptable. If the part permits the GO gage to enter into the part the gage’s full depth at the gaging force or less, then the part meets the low limit diameter requirements.
Carefully attempt to insert the NO-GO gage. When using separate gage, precaution shall be taken to ensure proper alignment of the bore and the gage for accurate result. Forcing misaligned NO-GO gage into the bore may result in damaged liner. Do not exceed the gaging force specified in Table 1. If the NO-GO gage does not enter the part, the part is judged not to exceed the high limit diameter. If the NO-GO gage enters the part beyond its lead-in chamfer at a force equal to the force specified in Table 1, the part is judged to be equal to the high limit diameter requirements. In each of these cases the parts are judged acceptable.SAE ARP 5448-9B pdf free download.
